Station Mgr Ken’s Annoying Reminder of the Week: Beverages and YOU
1) WFMU is just like the Grand Canyon. Except that WE are wider than we are deep, and we’re not a canyon, and “grand” is perhaps not the best adjective to describe us.
But! Both WFMU and the Grand Canyon have a “carry-in, carry-out” policy. Meaning: If you bring beer bottles into the station, please take the empties with you. That’s right, REMOVE the empties from the building so that you don’t saddle your fellow DJs with the detritus of your own drinking problem. There are recycling bins on the rear porches on the 3rd and 4th floor, but those are stopgaps. You are supposed to take your empties OUT OF THE BUILDING.
2) If you bring beverages into any of the studios, make sure that the beverages are in a spill-proof container -a bottle with screw cap, or a thermos or the like. Electronics and liquids are not a good match, and we’ve lost a lot of equipment over the years from DJs spilling liquids onto equipment. Bringing liquids into the studios in non spill-proof containers is against the rules. If you break equipment because of a spill, you will be suspended for a long time.
3) Empty your damn beverages into a sink before throwing them into the trash! Otherwise, one of your fellow DJs has to lift that garbage bag up, now filled with a fetid slushy of miscellaneous crap and swamp juice, and drag it through the halls of the station, often leaving a sticky trail with YOUR name on it, beeyatch! Use the sinks. Empty your drink before tossing it into the garbage.
