Apologies to Mama Cass

Did some checking, and singer “Mama” Cass Elliot (born Ellen Naomi Cohen; no relation) of the Mamas and the Papas died in London in 1974 of, quoting from her death certificate, “Fatty myocardial degeneration due to obesity” (a heart attack) in her sleep. She was 32 and had just performed the second of two sold-out shows at London’s Palladium. She DID NOT choke on a ham sandwich, as had been reported at the time, although a half-eaten sandwich was found in her apartment, but coroners found no food in her throat.

FUN FACT: She died in the same apartment (9 Curzon St., flat No. 12 ) that Keith Moon would die in four years later.

FUN FACT 2: When Andy was in Los Angeles last month, M&tP bandmate Michelle Phillips was his only celebrity sighting, at a Chinese restarant on West Pico Blvd..
